The Waffle've been meaning to check out The Waffle for quite some time now and I finally had the opportunity to check it out.  It was a typically beautiful day in Los Angeles in March -- 75, sunny, altogether perfect.  My friends Kate and Mike picked me up and we rode over to the restaurant in Hollywood.

The decor is bright, using yellows and oranges, but not too bright.  The restaurant has lots of natural light and appeared to be two floors.  Kate mentioned that the restaurant gets pretty busy on the weekends, so we were avoiding the crowds by visiting on a Friday.  We had no wait, and were promptly seated at a booth.  The waitstaff was immediately helpful as Mike and I ordered mimosas for ourselves.  Don't judge -- we were celebrating my birthday!  That's right, another birthday has already rolled around.  This is the third birthday I'm celebrating with this blog; it is crazy to think that time has passed that quickly.  In the past my birthdays have spanned Madrid, Boston/Costa Rica (same birthday!) and last year's birthmonth celebrations in New York and Los Angeles.  This year I have a trip planned... but more on that after I take the trip!

Back to The Waffle.  I asked our waiter if the Gluten Free waffle could be paired with any of the flavors like the red velvet, sticky bun, or chocolate chip.  I was really hoping that he would acquiesce to my request for the chocolate chip.  It was my lucky day (my birthday, I guess!) because he said that it was no problem to make the Gluten Free waffle with the chocolate chip flavoring.  I had a little bit of doubt after I heard Mike and Kate's orders, but I decided to go the distance and stick with my chocolate chip order.

I was not disappointed!  The waffle was absolutely amazing -- I couldn't even tell it was gluten free.  At all.  This is big, boys and girls.  I haven't had a gluten free waffle in years (much less a waffle, needless to say) and I was so surprised by how much this tastes like the waffles of my youth.  I am now officially in love with The Waffle and will definitely visit more frequently to check out the other flavors.  I was initially embarrassed to clean my plate in front of Kate but don't worry, I didn't let that stop me because I knew you readers would want my full evaluation.  She's my health guru and helped me during the training for my marathon, so I always try and eat healthy around her.  Of course it is just an act but I like to keep appearances up.  The plate in the picture above looks a bit lonely but don't worry, it had a plate with bacon and eggs alongside it!

Big thanks to Mike and Kate for kicking off my birthday celebration this year!

Gluten Free Fruity Pebbles On Shelves

My friend Ariel just sent me the below picture of the new packaging for Post's Fruity Pebbles.

Glad to see they are on shelves after being announced back in December.

A tip for those of you with kids looking for a snack:  instead of making Rice Krispies treats (which are not yet gluten free), make the same recipe with Fruity Pebbles in lieu of Rice Krispies!  They are a big hit with all of my friends and so simple to make.  On a side note, the gluten free blogosphere is abuzz with the news that Rice Krispies will release a gluten free version of its cereal in May 2011.  I'm waiting for an official press release, but Gluten-Free Optimist has a good writeup of the impending change here.
