Steuben's Food Service

The next stop on my gluten free eating tour of Denver with Stevie was Steuben's.  When we walked in the place was hopping, particularly for a Sunday night.  Stevie and I sidled up to the bar while we waited for our table.

When we first sat down to our table we looked over the menu while enjoying our drinks.  The vegetarian chili relleno sounded good to me as Stevie eyed the skirt steak.  After deciding on the chili relleno, he remembered that Steuben's offers a gluten free menu.  After asking our waiter for gluten free guidance, he promptly brought us two copies of the menu.  Sadly, my chili relleno was no longer an option; I didn't ask what ruled it out but it was not listed on the seperate gluten free menu.  I opted instead for the grilled salmon.  Stevie, for the second time that day, followed my lead and opted for the same dish.  We also chose not to have the crispy (fried) brussel sprouts, instead opting for some green beans.

I really enjoyed the dish.  The salmon came out very simply in the center of the plate with some corn, tomato, and onion on top.  It wasn't swimming in the pickled corn relish (which was instead surrounding it on the plate).  The green beans were a nice complement to the relish and salmon.

I'd definitely visit Steuben's again -- it was a simple meal but I appreciated the restaurant having a dedicated gluten free menu.  Our waiter was helpful, prompt, and had no problem with our substitutions.  The only criticism of this place was that it was a bit loud, making it difficult to carry on a conversation.  Perhaps we were just seated in a noisy section.

Do you love it or do you love it?
