I went to go visit my friends Whitney and Henry last weekend in San Diego. Having moved to SoCal pretty recently I've only been to San Diego once and was excited to visit again. Unfortunately I didn't get the best weather -- it was rainy and overcast. Hopefully I'll be back again for a gluten free BBQ in the summer.
While we were out on the town at Gossip Grill, I asked a bartender what her favorite drink to make was. She rattled off a list of specials and I insisted on drinks with rum. I've found that rum is one of the only safe alcohols for me as a Celiac; while I have certainly read that all distilled vodkas and spirits are fine, I know that I personally shy away from all liquor except rum and tequila in order to not feel ill. When I asked for a drink with rum my friend Henry chimed in that I was demanding rum because it is gluten free. When the bartender, Mo, heard that she immediately brightened up. "Well I have Redbridge here too!" she said.
After picking my jaw up off the floor, I asked her why she was carrying it. She said that she had heard about gluten free diets and decided to pick it up and begin serving it for her gluten free customers.
It's exciting to hear that bars are beginning to serve Redbridge, particularly when it wasn't expected at all.
