iHerb $50 Giveaway

Abby from iHerb.com recently contacted me and offered me a $50 shopping spree on the website.  How could I say no?  The deal sounded great.  Even better, she offered to give one of my readers a similar $50 gift to shop at iHerb.com.  $100 in giveaways?  Yes please.

I took a little time to decide what I wanted to order; luckily Abby was super helpful in pointing me in the right direction.  iHerb has a full gluten free foods section along with gluten free snacks, rice, flour, and pasta sections.  I was pleasantly surprised by the selection that iHerb.com had on its site.  I was thrown off by the "iHerb" moniker and assumed that they it would be a website full of herbal supplements and the like.  As I learned when I was young, don't assume because it makes an ass out of u and me.  Get it?

I ended up receiving quite a large package from iHerb, full of great gluten free treats:

Excuse the poor camera-phone quality.  Included in the box from iHerb was a package of Arrowhead Mills' gluten free brownie mix; Glutino's pretzel sticks, blueberry breakfast bars, and lemon wafer Cookies; three boxes of Lundberg's risotto, a box of the brand's organic brown rice pasta and a bag of wild blended rice; Now Healthy Foods' whey too good brownie mix; and two bags of Yummy Earth's candy (lollipops and candy drops).  All in all, a successful shopping trip!  I particularly like Yummy Earth's products.  It's nice to be able to eat candy every once in awhile without having to worry about it containing gluten.  I'll have product reviews of the Arrowhead Mills mix along with Now Healthy Foods' mix soon!

I was really happy with the iHerb process, particularly the shipping time and price.  I placed my order on February 18th and received it February 22nd.  Shipping on normal packages is only $4 -- mine was free and the winner's will be free too!  Can't get a better deal than that.

My sole complaint about iHerb is that some of the products came bagged in separate plastic bags (such as the Glutino pretzel sticks); I'm not sure why this is the case, but it was environmentally unfriendly and unnecessary.

So, about that $50 giveaway... it's very simple!  Just leave a comment in on this blog post with what you would order from iHerb if you won.  That's it.  Make sure to leave your e-mail address so I can contact you if you win -- or just keep reading the blog for when I announce the winner! If for some reason the comment feature isn't working for you, feel free to e-mail me your submission.  All submissions are due by Friday, March 5th at 5pm.  The winning entry (chosen randomly) will get a $50 giveaway along with free shipping and handling on the purchase.

Good luck!  And to those of you who don't win, don't fret -- iHerb has also given me a special coupon code which gives you $5 off your first purchase!  Just type in coupon LAK741 under the first item you place into your cart where it says: "New Customers" highlighted in black text with a yellow background.  That should set you on your way to $5 off your first order.

Update: I forgot to mention that shipping and handling on ALL orders over $40 is free and that iHerb will pay the CA tax on your order.

Do you love it or do you love it?

The gluten free goodies are great, but I would spend the $ on all my GF vitamins that I order every month. I've been ordering from iherb for years and absolutely love them. I easily spend $50/mo on vitamins from them, and slightly hurt they didn't offer me a shopping spree, but that's life I guess, you lucky dude. :-) debzaz@gmail.com

I LOVE iHerb and shop with them all the time. In fact, I write blogs about them whenever possible. If I won at iHerb, I would purchase, with the $50, some coconut oil and CoQ10. I use coconut oil for everything since Dr Mercola recommends this for all cooking..

I would stock up on some Bob's Red Mill GF flours. Almost 5 years with celiac disease, and I still haven't gotten back to baking. This would give me a nice little nudge.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but you might not want to eat GLUTINO: they use GMO's! I phoned them and they confirmed. Every time you read the word "corn" or "soy" (maltodextrin, vegetable oil) on their label, it's GMO! GMO's cause Morgellons disease. After you google that you will realize that you'd be better off eating wheat. I'm using this analogy to emphasize how toxic GMO's are. All non-organic crops of cotton, corn, soy & canola are GMO.
